You know the saying, 'there's no gain without pain'? Never a truer word was spoken when it comes to the Braun Silk-epil Xpressive. Epilating can be excruciating, particularly if you are going to strip parts not normally exposed to electrical implements. However, having put my underarms through this particularly gruelling all-in-the-name-of-beauty research, I can say that the results are more than worth it. Way more than. The uber-epilator didn't miss a single hair and gave a finish that looked like I'd been expertly waxed.
£89.99 at Boots, Argos & Superdrug.

top5-2.jpg2. Bronze Beauty

With all the rain we've had recently, everyone at Beauty and the Dirt is feeling a little sun starved. Until the weather sorts itself out we are happy to pretend we've just come back from a Caribbean sojourn with the help of Dior’s new Bronze Lumières d’Or compact (£32). The two bronze shades used together create the best (fake) sunkissed look, and the little gold lipgloss makes this the perfect summer compact, even if it's raining outside.
Available nationwide from 5th May 2008

top5-3.jpg3. Wedding Belles

Don't let tears of joy ruin the obligatory family pictures; running mascara does not become a beautiful bride! Make up genius Bobbi Brown has put together the essential kit for your big day with all the basics including Ivory EyeShadow, Black Ink Long-Wear Gel Liner and Black No-Smudge Mascara to create a sweet but sexy look. Housed in the prettiest white pouch, its the ultimate aisle accessory to touch up those tears.
Available exclusively at John Lewis, £55.

top5-4.jpg4. Infinitely More

Chanel's latest fragrance launch is the vetiver focussed Sycomore. A new interpretation of a scent originally developed in the 1930's, the smell is simple, sheer and deliciously woody - perfect for souls (like me) on whom bottom notes of tonka bean or ju-ju berry are entirely lost. There's a dash of pink pepper to retain a sharpness and a touch of spicy cypress, but other than a splash of heady sandalwood, that's it. Clean, clear and comprehensible perfume perfection.
£140 for 200ml - www.chanel.com

top5-5.jpg5. Goodbye Panda Eyes

The endless parties, launches and late nights (it’s a hard job but someone has to do it) are starting to take their toll on me. These days I’m looking less bright and fresh and more dark and dull around the eyes. But now it's time to say goodbye to panda eyes with my secret cover up Rimmel’s Renew and Lift concealer. It will hide the darkest of circles in an instant and its easy applicator is great if you’re on the run. It’s also affordable at only £4.99.
Rimmel's Renew and Lift range is available nationwide now.
