There was once a time when the words 'Hidden Gem' were almost synonymous with the City of Prague. These days, there's little doubt that it stands proudly as one of Europe's most vibrant cities.
In recent years, it's become a popular destination for Stag and Hen parties, thanks mainly to the low cost of liquid refreshment, together with the lively and varied nightlife. The vast majority of the many bars on offer allow you to buy a traditional Czech beer for only around 25p... so, no excuses for not getting a round in!
Don't be fooled into thinking the city is just a haven for drunken revellers though. Stunning architecture, fascinating culture, and a wide selection of theatre and opera make it the perfect destination for any culture vulture!
Known as the city of a thousand spires, you can't help but be taken in by the dramatic splendour of the Charles Bridge, or the Old Town Square.
One of the best times to visit the city is in December, when Prague's famous Christmas Markets come to town.
With the main markets based in the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, it's an ideal opportunity to amble on the crisp snow between the traditional wooden huts, and peruse the wide array of traditional Czech handicrafts (the perfect stocking fillers!), delicious hot local food, and, of course, a mulled wine or two!
The Christmas Markets aren't all about shopping, though. Children can enjoy pony rides at a mini-zoo, while you take in the sights of the spectacular manger scene, as well as the city's impressive Christmas tree, set against the famous gothic skyline.
