Just 5.8 million people watched the Golden Globes press conference on US TV.
The bare-bones telecast, presented without the usual Hollywood pomp due to the screenwriters strike, was replaced with what was effectively calling the register for the biggest and best movies and TV shows of the year with video clips of nominees in each category.
The event usually gets 20 million viewers.
As a result of lower viewership, NBC lost $10 million to $15 million in advertising revenue compared to what it had planned for the Globes telecast.
