Gareth JohnGareth John

Gareth has the earliest start of all the presenters and is on-air every day between 1am and 6am.

About Gareth:

Gareth began his working life in Fleet St in 1985 as a cashier in a bank! Leaving work to return to studies, he spent three years at the University of Warwick gaining a History degree and dipping his toes into radio waters as a DJ on the University station.

From University via a stint in local radio in East Anglia, Gareth joined Heart in London in 1997, and is now heading out across the Midlands, too!

In December 2005, he married his long-term girlfriend, Charlotte, in a candle-lit Christmas ceremony in the Cotswolds.

He’s a keen photographer, a season-ticket holding fan of Portsmouth FC & is quite rubbish with anything technical & gadgety. Charlotte says he’s not much better at housework!

More about Gareth

Have you ever flirted on the tube?
Not for years! I used to prefer those cheeky passing glances across the escalators.

Winter or Summer?
Winter for cosy nights in the pub, summer for cosy nights in the beer-garden.

Do you have any bad habits?
My approach to clothes-storing. I like to take the open-plan 'strewn across the bedroom' approach. That way, everything you might want to wear again one day is always within reach. Ok, so it’s a bit messy!

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I like to think my proposal to Charlotte scores fairly high here. I cheekily schemed with her boss to get her the day off, then flew her to the North East and drove to a remote castle ruin on a desolate stretch of the Northumbrian Coast which we both love to pop the question. Just managed to do the deed before a string of bearded ramblers emerged from behind the castle to almost spoil the party!

What’s your biggest fashion faux-pas?
Trinny & Susanah could probably devote a whole series to my fashion sense over the years, but I guess the 80’s was the particular low… non-matching flourescent socks and a pair of brushed denim jeans. Nice.
