Feisty Jamelia signed to record label Parlophone when she was just 15, and released her first single So High in 1999. She followed it up with first album Drama, which made a big splash in the charts and spawned the hit single Money. After that Jamelia was the name on everyone’s lips, and she was up for no less than five MOBO awards, scooping one for Best Video in 2000.
After her initial success Jamelia quit to have a baby, but plans were brewing for a big comeback. Then in 2003 the single Bout was released and album Thank You hit the charts the same year, earning her more success in the UK, Europe and Australia.
In spring 2004 she signed to the prestigious model agency ICM, becoming the face and legs for Pretty Polly, before working for Reebok.
After having another child in 2005, Jamelia returned to the recording studio to work on her latest album Walk With Me, which was released earlier this year. To celebrate she did a gig at London’s Hard Rock Café and was so impressed with the waitresses skimpy outfits she asked one of the girls if she could have the white blouse off her back! Luckily the bosses found her a new one to take home.
Outspoken Jamelia is also known for slating X Factor’s Leona and ex-Spice Girl Emma Bunton for their poor singing!
She is currently engaged to Millwall footballer Darren Byfield, who she nicknamed Baby Boy!
